.DISCUSSION...Low clouds lingering on the eastern side of our
area, but should clear by mid-day. Otherwise clear skies and
dry through the weekend as an upper level ridge builds in from
the west. Limited warming today as the eastern periphery of the
aforementioned ridge keeps the area under northerly flow aloft,
with highs in the mid to high 50s in our lower elevations (30s
to 40s in our higher elevations). Warming trend this weekend as
the ridge sets in right overhead. Current forecast looks on
track, no updates necessary.

.AVIATION...Mainly VFR. Low chance of rain showers (<10% chance)
near the Magic Valley this afternoon. Surface winds: W-NW 5-10 kt
with gusts to 20 kt, then variable less than 10 kt overnight. Winds
aloft at 10kft: N-NE 10-20 kt.

KBOI...VFR with NW winds 4-8 kt on Friday afternoon, then variable
less than 5 kt overnight.

Weekend Outlook...VFR through Sunday under mostly clear skies.
Incoming rain showers bringing mountain obscuration and lowered
ceilings in SE OR Sunday night. Surface winds: Generally less
than 12 kt.

.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Today through Sunday night...Upper trough is
finally  shifting eastward out of the intermountain region
bringing clearing skies and the start of a warming trend as a
high-amplitude Pacific upper ridge nears the coast. However,
today`s warming will be hindered by northerly flow aloft
behind the departing upper trough. The warming will be more
noticeable Saturday and especially Sunday when the upper
ridge passes directly over our CWA. Nights will warm more
slowly than the days. Clouds will increase in Oregon later
Sunday as the next Gulf of Alaska upper trough moves toward
the coast. Rain showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms
will begin in eastern Oregon Sunday night. Sunday night will
also be warmer than previous nights due to cloud cover.

LONG TERM...Monday through Friday...A longwave trough is
expected to deepen into the Pacific northwest through Monday,
bringing a band of precipitation across the area. This trough
passage is expected to slightly drop daytime temperatures into
the lower to mid 60s in the valleys, and snow levels into the
5000-6000 ft range Monday through early next week. Rain showers
are primarily expected over the valleys, with a slight chance of
thunderstorms over the foothills and mountains Monday
afternoon. Light snow showers are also possible over the higher
mountain ranges over 6000 ft. A following shortwave trough will
continue lower chances of rain showers over lower elevations and
snow showers over higher elevations through the later hours of
Tuesday, before a longwave ridge returns drier and warmer
conditions until the end of the extended forecast period.
